5HTTP

5HTTP, which is also known as  5-Hydroxytryptophan or 5-HTP, is a supplement that may help you overcome cravings and depression. 5HTTP is an amino acid that helps increase serotonin levels in the brain. Serotonin levels are what control moods, and 5HTTP works by improving the way nerve cells communicate with the brain.

5HTTP Helps Cravings

The supplement, 5HTTP,  is a neurotransmitter the nerve cells and brain use to communicate with each other, and even though our bodies create serotonin naturally, at times the demand for serotonin is greater than the supply. So when this happens, people usually have more cravings or intense desires for food that is high in sugar and carbohydrates. They may also suffer from other symptoms like anxiety and depression.

Since people usually feel anxiety as well when their serotonin levels are too low, it's important to do things to increase serotonin levels. By boosting serotonin levels, it's possible to reduce those cravings and have a better overall feeling of good health.

Studies reveal that those who lower their daily intake of calories (go on a diet) and take 5HTTP supplements have fewer carvings and desire to overeat. An Italian research study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that during a four month study, participants saw a great reduction in cravings, even though they were reducing their caloric intakes. The participants in the study took 300 mg of 5HTTP three times per day.

Quite a few other research studies have been published about the positive effects of 5HTTP supplements. There was also a study published about 5HTTP supplements helping people with type 2 diabetes. It was reported that since the participants had fewer cravings for high-carbohydrate and sugary foods, they improved their blood sugar levels, which delayed the progression of their medical condition of diabetes.

5HTTP Can Help You Enjoy Overall Good Health

Taking 5HTTP regularly has also been shown to help other conditions like depression, headaches and insomnia. It can also help relive tension and it's also considered an antioxidant, which is good for health. In general many people report having a sense of better overall health when they take 5HTTP supplements.

Are Side Effects from Taking 5HTTP?

Unfortunately, like with most supplements, there may be some side effects when taking 5HTTP, even though many scientific studies prove the supplements are fairly safe and effective. Some people have reported nausea, vomiting, fatigue, diarrhea, sexual issues and muscle problems. So be careful when taking any supplements.

Finally, always check with your doctor or a health professional before taking 5HTTP or any other supplements. You could also suffer from an interaction if you're taking any other medications or other supplements. Those who are already taking medication for depression or anxiety should be especially careful to check with their doctors first.

Always keep in mind that in general most supplements are not approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA). It's basically up to the companies that produce these supplements to test and approve them for human consumption. If you're going to start taking 5HTTP, be sure to buy the product from a reputable company.
